This is not a Crisafulli Strings podcast.  Instead, this is a recording of a performance by a fifth grade general music class.

Ms. Moores' fifth graders were given a percussive composition by Jim Solomon called Alpha Four.  We learned to perform it as written, using body percussion, and studied rondo form, which may be written as A-B-A-C-A.

Students then brought in their own found instruments- objects that made interesting noises.  We had tins, a hard glasses case, water bottles, a rubber band over a cereal box, a tube played with friction from a moving palm, a cone used as a megaphone, a music stand with pencils, and many other fun noisemakers.

Students were broken into five groups: A, B, C, Intro and Coda (conclusion).  The Intro and Coda groups were given the freedom to compose their own segments.  Groups rehearsed separately, then we practiced moving seamlessly from group's performance into the next without missing beats.  We revised the coda to include a joyful expression of all the class's instruments at once, and we practiced ending abruptly on cue.  We recorded, and here is our final product.  Enjoy!
